The historic KiMo Theatre in Downtown Albuquerque (421 Central NW) is opening the doors to a whole host of family film marathons between Christmas and New Year’s. First up is the Madagascar trilogy. The 2005 animal-centric cartoon Madagascar will screen Thursday, Dec. 26, at 2pm. Madagascar: Escape 2 Africa (2008) will screen Friday, Dec. 27, at 2pm. Madagascar 3: Europe’s Most Wanted will screen Saturday, Dec. 28, at 2pm. You can get an adult pass for all three movies for $12 or a 3-film child’s pass (under age 5) for $5. Individual tickets run $5 general admission or $2 (under age 5).If you’re looking for something more geared toward the teenagers in your household, KiMo will show off all five of the Twilight Saga films. Twilight (2008) screens Thursday, Dec. 26, at 6pm. New Moon (2009) screens Friday, Dec. 27, at 6pm. Eclipse (2010) screens Friday, Dec. 27, at 9pm. Breaking Dawn, Part 1 (2011) screens Saturday, Dec. 28, at 6pm. Breaking Dawn, Part 2 (2012) closes it all out on Saturday, Dec. 28, at 9pm. A five-film pass will run you $20. Individual tickets are $5 general admission.Sounds like a great excuse to get yourself or your family members out of the house after the Christmas hubbub has died down. Reel World: Creepy Christmas Creepy Christmas
Alibi Midnight Movie Madness has never been one to buy into the schmaltzy concept of good, old-fashioned holiday cheer. This time last year at Guild Cinema, we brought you the “H.P. Lovecraft Christmas.” This year we’re following it up with a “Stephen King X-Mas” celebration. This coming Friday and Saturday, Dec. 27 and 28, Alibi and the Guild will show off a double-feature of Stephen King movie favorites. We’ve got 1986’s Maximum Overdrive (at 9:15pm) and 1989’s Pet Sematary (at 11:15pm). To make this extra special, we’ve hooked up with the artistic folks at Downtown Contemporary Gallery (105 Fourth Street SW). Now through Jan. 17, the gallery is hosting “The Creepshow: A Tribute to Stephen King.” Over 20 local artists are exhibiting paintings, prints and sculptures inspired by King’s creepy work. Two of the artists from that show, Jon Sanchez (“Jonito”) and Jeremy Montoya (“JM”), have made special, limited-edition, glow-in-the-dark posters for the Midnight Movie screenings. There’s one for Maximum Overdrive and one for Pet Sematary. They’ll be for sale at the Guild the nights of the screenings. And they will go fast! Tickets for the screenings are $8 general admission and $6 students.
