The Albuquerque Film Festival is hosting a fundraiser called Geek Fest on Film this weekend at the KiMo Theatre. The fest starts Friday at 7 p.m. with a double feature of With Great Power: The Stan Lee Story (a documentary about the famed comic book creator) and Attention Span (a film festival made up of 60-second flicks). Tickets are $10 each and can be picked up at kimotickets.com.

Reel World: Showing A Lot Of Heart Showing A Lot Of Heart

Among the film and television stars gracing this year’s Albuquerque Comic Expo (see page 20) is one of Albuquerque’s own. Billy Garberina has been a longtime fixture on the local indie film scene. Garberina directed the 2007 horror comedy Necroville as well as the fresh-out-on-DVD zombie crime flick Stiffed (which was written, it must be admitted, by a certain Alibi film editor). Garberina produced other Albuquerque-lensed features, including 2006’s Wedding Slashers and 2007’s Gimme Skelter . As an actor, he’s appeared in scads of low-budget fodder: Feeding the Masses, The Stink of Flesh, Psycho Holocaust, Terror at Blood Fart Lake, Taintlight, Wicked Wood, Deathbone, The Righteous and the Wicked.

In conjunction with ACE, Garberina will be premiering his brand new, blackly comic horror feature I Heart U . Once again, it must be admitted that your friendly neighborhood Alibi Film Editor Devin D. O’Leary is the somewhat proud scribe of this cinematic endeavor. The film was directed by Garberina, who stars alongside noted scream queen Raine Brown ( Barricade, Sculpture, Braincell, Psycho Street, The Sickness, 100 Tears ). The two play a not-so-happily married couple who, unbeknownst to one another, share the same secret hobby: serial killing!

The film will screen Friday and Saturday, June 8 and 9, at the Guild Cinema in Nob Hill. Screenings start at 10 p.m. and midnight. Tickets are $8 at the box office. Cast and crew will be in attendance. You need not have a ACE pass to attend.
