Louie’s Rock-N-Reels, Albuquerque’s longtime purveyor of awesome movie memorabilia, suffered a break-in late last month. Owner Louie Torres says several of his most prized items disappeared during the burglary. This is lousy news and not just because it takes money from the pockets of a hardworking local businessman. It also deprives Albuquerque’s movie fans of the opportunity to purchase their own piece of movie history. The burglary happened sometime between 10:30 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 29, and 2 p.m. Sunday, Sept. 30, on Harvard across from UNM. Torres is offering a reward for the return of the items and would be grateful if Alibi readers could keep an eye out for them at flea markets, garage sales and other retail outlets. Topping the list is Torres’ own 14”-by-36” poster for Cheech and Chong’s Up in Smoke. This one’s autographed by Cheech Marin and Tommy Chong and personalized to Torres. Also missing are a 1977 Grateful Dead Illinois concert poster, a 40”-by-60” Heavy Metal movie poster, 25 oversized French and Italian posters for American films, a 12” Marilyn Monroe picture disc, 20 to 30 actor-autographed photos and several art prints, including one from Salvador Dali’s 1967 “Rebirth of Israel” series. A full list of the stolen items is available on the Rock-N-Reels Facebook page. If you have any information about the missing items, please contact Louie’s Rock-N-Reels at 232-7510.
