Let Me In , the American remake of the Swedish vampire flick Let the Right One In , is gearing up to film right here in New Mexico. While I’m awfully mixed on the idea of a remake, I’m excited it’s happening in New Mexico. The story of a bullied young boy who befriends the little vampire girl next door is being directed by Matt Reeves (who gave us the monster romp Cloverfield ). Casting agents are looking for children ages 8 to 18 in Los Alamos, Taos and Albuquerque. The two main roles are already filled by Kodi Smit-McPhee (from the upcoming film The Road ) and Chloe Moretz (who appeared in (500) Days of Summer ), but there are plenty of other roles to cover. If you’re interesting in getting your offspring involved, please register with Elizabeth Gabel online at egcasting.com or call 967-9533.
Also about to start filming in New Mexico is Passion Play, a supernatural drama about an angel under the thumb of a ruthless gangster, starring Mickey Rourke and Megan Fox. Its production company is looking for all sorts of paid extras to fill out the frame. Filming will take place Nov. 2 through Dec. 15 in Albuquerque and Santa Fe. On Location Casting is looking for everything from Jewish comedians to Tarahumara Indians to Burlesque dancers to “giants” to an African-American jazz quartet. (What the hell kinda movie is this?) A complete list of background talent needed (and it’s a big list) is available under the “Casting Notices” section at onlocationcasting.net. If you’re already signed up with On Location Casting, there’s no need to contact them about this project—you’ll automatically be considered. But if you’re new to the biz and interested in getting involved, you will need to visit the company website and complete a Talent Application. Be ready to upload one or two photos to your talent profile. If you need more info, you can contact the casting company via e-mail at onlocationcasting@yahoo.com.
Guild Cinema in Nob Hill will provide a pit stop this Saturday, Oct. 24, for traveling filmmakers Ben Balcom and Josh Weissbach. The two are on a 20-state film tour aimed at hitting all regions in the continental U.S. Heap Us ’Round Our Ruins: An Interstate Film Circuit will feature Weissbach’s film “interiors of the liquid gap,” an experimental documentary about Cuban exiles and the intimate sites of their lives. Balcom, meanwhile, will showcase his cycle of short films that “teeter the line between reality and dream.” The screening starts at 1:30 p.m. For more info on the tour, log on to www.round-our-ruins.com.
