Local filmmaker Holly Adams is still working on turning her web series “The Man-App” into a full-fledged feature film. This sexy comedy/fantasy concerns a “technophile bombshell” who creates a smartphone application that instantly delivers the man of her dreams at the touch of a button. To help speed the plow, there will be a benefit screening of “The Man-App” episodes and other Holly Adams short films. The event will take place Thursday, July 10, at the Ryde Shack (101 Bryn Mawr SE). The screening starts at 8pm. A suggested $5 donation gets you in the door for “a romping good time.”

Korengal, the follow-up to Sebastian Junger’s Academy Award-nominated Afghan war documentary Restrepo, will open this Friday in Albuquerque at the High Ridge Theater (12921 Indian School NE). Korengal focuses on the men of the 173rd Airborne Brigade’s Battle Company as they defend a hand-built plywood outpost in the remote mountains of Afghanistan against enemy forces. The film will play all week, but on Friday night there will be a special Q&A with Staff Sergeant (ret.) Eric Ortegren of Battle Company. After being seriously injured in Afghanistan, Ortegren moved to Albuquerque and got his master’s in social work. He now works with veterans. Ortegren will head up to Santa Fe on Saturday, July 12, to the DeVargas Mall Cinema 6 for another Q&A. Show times at both theaters begin around 7pm. (Check individual theater listings for exact times.)
