The New Mexico Film Foundation is hosting another Filmmaker Mixer. This opportunity for local filmmakers to meet new people in the film industry or to touch base with old friends will take place Thursday, June 1, from 5:30 to 9pm at the Inn at Santa Fe (8378 Cerillos). Reel World: Cinema, Italian Style Cinema, Italian Style
CineFesta Italia will take place in Santa Fe from Thursday, June 1, to Sunday, June 4. The film festival, an independent offshoot of the N.M. Italian Film & Culture Festival, is produced under the auspices of the Consulate General of Italy and in collaboration with Instituto Italiano de Cultura. Among the films being shown this year are a couple of Southwest premieres. On Saturday, starting at 2pm, the festival will screen Non Essere Cattivo (Don’t Be Bad), the award-winning final film from director Claudio Caligari. Set in the ’90s on the outskirts of Rome, the film explores the world of hedonism, luxury and drugs among a group of twentysomething rich kids. On Sunday, at 2pm, the festival will screen Piuma (Feather), the story of an average young couple whose life is turned upside down by an unexpected pregnancy. Several other films, an opening night reception, an Italian wine tasting, and a pizza and pasta party are also scheduled over the course of the weekend. All film screenings will take place at the Jean Cocteau Cinema (418 Montezuma). Individual film tickets are $12. Full-festival passes run $85 to $185. Reel World: Are You Experienced? Are You Experienced?
The Albuquerque Film & Music Experience returns next week, June 6 through 11, with six days worth of films, workshops, panels, concerts and more. Registration begins Tuesday, June 6, at the Crowne Plaza Hospitality Room (1901 University NE), starting at noon. The Filmmaker & VIP Lounge runs from 3 to 6pm in the Crowne Plaza Cantina. The opening night reception kicks off at 5:30pm in the Crowne Plaza Courtyard. From 7:30 to 9:30pm, the lights go down for the opening night film, RUMBLE: The Indians Who Rocked the World, taking place at the historic KiMo Theatre. This documentary looks at the role of Native Americans in contemporary music history. A Q&A with the filmmakers will take place after the screening. Festivities continue on Wednesday, June 7, with a screening of New Mexico-made shorts from 5 to 6:45pm at KiMo. Throughout the next weekend there will be screenings of Hollywood classics (Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets, The Last of the Mohicans, The Big Lebowski), new documentaries (American Road, Awakening in Taos, Mad For Madonna), indie features (One Penny), and a whole lot of short films and music videos. All screenings will take place at the KiMo (423 Central NW) and at the South Broadway Cultural Center (1025 Broadway SE). Full-festival passes run $125 to $200.
