Godzilla stomped a mudhole in the pre-Memorial Day box office last weekend. And now KiMo Theatre is revisiting some other classic monster movie action with its new series “Universal Monsters: The ’30s.” This collection of old-school bugaboos from the Universal Studios vaults starts off with 1932’s Murders in the Rue Morgue, screening this Friday, May 23, at 8pm. Future installments include 1934’s The Black Cat (May 30), 1935’s The Raven (June 13), 1935’s The Bride of Frankenstein (June 20), 1935’s The Werewolf of London (June 27) and 1939’s Tower of London (July 11). But it doesn’t end there. Starting in August, we get “Universal Monsters: The ’40s.” Tickets are $7 general admission and $5 students/seniors. KiMo Theatre is located at 423 Central NW.

Have you blown through the explosive second season of “House of Cards” on Netflix already? Are you craving another Kevin Spacey fix? This weekend KiMo Theatre is launching a Kevin Spacey Retrospective. It starts off Saturday, May 24, at 7pm with 1995’s serial killer thriller Se7en. Come back on June 14 for 1997’s L.A. Confidential, on June 21 for 1997’s Midnight in the Garden of Good and Evil, June 28 for 1999’s American Beauty, July 12 for 2000’s Pay It Forward and July 26 for 2001’s K-PAX. (Although you’d be a happier person if you skipped those last two; they’re miserable pablum.) Tickets are $7 general admission and $5 students/seniors.

The second annual New Mexico Film & Media Industry Conference gets underway at Hotel Albuquerque next weekend with a broad range of panels, presentations, vendor exhibitions and networking opportunities. Local filmmakers, producers, crew, digital artists and post-production professionals are encouraged to attend. Nick Maniatis, director of the New Mexico Film Office, will open the conference on Friday, May 30, starting at 10am. From there, you can choose from a number of sessions with topics ranging from film tourism to our state’s refundable production tax credit. On Saturday, May 31, from 9:15 to 10:45am, for example, the panel topic will be “Emerging Media & Entertainment.” Moderator Stuart Halperin, emerging media contractor with the New Mexico State Film Office, will lead a discussion on the ever-changing environment of digitally generated content and interactive entertainment. On the same day, from 1 to 2:30pm, the conference will present an in-depth look at the third season of AMC’s “Longmire.” Actor Bailey Chase, head writer and executive producer John Coveny, supervising producer Chris Donahue, cinematographer Cameron Duncan, location manager Rowan Stanland and production designer Thomas A. Walsh are among the guests. The conference is free to attend (with the exception of a paid luncheon on Friday and a post-conference networking reception at Casa Esencia Lounge). Family movie fun hits the Albuquerque Bernalillo County Library system on the fourth Saturday of every month. On May 24, starting at 4pm, the Lomas Tramway Library (908 Eastridge NE) will be hosting a screening of the 2012 CGI-animated cartoon Dr. Seuss’ The Lorax. Admission is free.
