Gallup gets into the film biz this weekend, Sept. 13 through 15, with the 2013 Gallup Film Festival. The lineup is looking like a blast. On Saturday, Sept. 14, the festival has teamed up with The Navajo Nation Museum to premiere Star Wars: Episode IV: A New Hope in the newly completed Navajo language dub starting at 10pm. Actors Bronson Pelletier and Kiowa Gordon, the “Wolf Pack Brothers” from the Twilight Saga, will lead a Wolf Pack trail through Gallup on Saturday afternoon. There will be documentary, dramatic, animation and short film screenings throughout the weekend, as well as workshops, live music, panel discussions and parties. Everything takes place inside Gallup’s gorgeous Spanish Colonial-style El Morro Theatre (207 West Coal). Day passes are running $25, while all-access VIP passes will set you back $95. Reel World: Date Night Date Night
Wanna got out on a date? KiMo Theatre is offering us all the perfect excuse with “Date Night at the KiMo.” On Saturday, Sept. 14, starting at 7pm, the theater will host a screening of the 1998 romantic comedy You’ve Got Mail starring Tom Hanks and Meg Ryan. The film is a much-loved remake of the 1940 film The Shop Around the Corner starring James Stewart and Margaret Sullavan. Tickets are $7 general admission and $5 students and seniors. The newly renovated and reopened Jean Cocteau Cinema (418 Montezuma) in Santa Fe is already doing its part to help promote New Mexico film. On Friday, Sept. 13, starting at 6:30pm, there will be a screening of the locally lensed feature Blaze You Out. The film tells the story of Lupe, a strong-willed aspiring DJ who sets out on a dangerous journey through the heroin-ravaged underworld of her small hometown searching for her younger sister, who has disappeared after witnessing a murder. The drug-fueled drama was shot mostly in and around Española and has been picked up for distribution by Lionsgate. The film’s cast and crew—including co-writers and directors Diego Joaquin Lopez and Mateo Frazier and producer Alicia J. Keyes—will be on hand for a post-film Q&A. Tickets will run $8 to $10.
