The National Hispanic Cultural Center pays tribute to labor organizer César Chávez with a free documentary screening on Thursday, March 29. The Fight in the Fields: César Chávez and the Farmworkers’ Struggle recounts the history of the charismatic Chávez and his co-founder Dolores Huerta, who inspired a nonviolent movement, confronted conservative politicians and eventually formed the United Farmworkers Union. Archival footage as well as present-day interviews with Ethel Kennedy, Jerry Brown, Dolores Huerta and members of Chávez’ family form the backbone of this film, the first to cover the full arc of Chávez’ life. Admission is free. Show starts at 7pm. Tickets can be picked up one hour before showtime at the Bank of America Theatre box office (1701 Fourth Street NW).
