Instead of scribbling notes and taking tests, the students at Albuquerque’s Public Academy for Performing Arts’ media program decided to make their own feature film. The end result, a 60-minute movie called PAPArazzi , will make its public debut on Thursday, Feb. 23, at Guild Cinema. The film tells the story of two ambitious performing arts school students doing battle with one another to get their hands on a coveted scholarship. The film will screen at 5:15, 6:15 and 7:15 p.m. Of course, the cast and crew will be in attendance. To help out, Guild next-door neighbor Il Vicino pizzeria has offered to donate 20 percent of its sales that night to the school’s media program (if you mention PAPArazzi ). So come out, have dinner, watch a movie and support Albuquerque’s next generation of filmmakers.

Rocky Horror New Mexico will do what it does best and present another live shadowcast of the movie musical Rocky Horror Picture Show on Saturday, Feb. 25. The event will begin at 9 p.m. at The Kosmos, inside the Factory on 5 th art space (1715 Fifth Street NW). $10 tickets and $5 prop bags are on sale now at rockyhorrornewmexico.eventbrite.com. Show up, dress as your favorite Transylvanian, dance the Time Warp and, most of all, “don’t dream it, be it!”
Reel World: Shameless Self-Promotion Shameless Self-Promotion
Indie Q, Albuquerque’s monthly independent film community meetup, is having a very special get-together this Wednesday, Feb. 29, if I do say so myself. The event will feature the DVD release screening of the locally lensed supernatural crime comedy Stiffed. The film is directed by Billy Garberina ( Necroville ), stars a host of Albuquerque actors (including Jamison Jontry, Kevin Santry, Daniel Cornish and Phil Duran) and just happens to have been written and executive produced by Alibi Film Editor Devin D. O’Leary. (That’s me, yo!) Cast and crew will be at Wednesday’s screening and will participate in a Q & A afterward. DVDs—fresh off the presses at Independent Entertainment—will be for sale in the lobby. It all takes place at the KiMo Theatre starting at 7 p.m. Thanks to the Albuquerque Film Office, the screening is free and open to the public. I hope to see you there.
