The New Mexico Post Alliance is presenting another hands-on post-production workshop this Thursday, Nov. 10, at UNM Continuing Education (1634 University NE) from 6 to 8pm. Award-winning filmmaker, writer and cinematographer Brad Stoddard will teach a class on “round tripping” a Final Cut Pro X xml to DaVinci Resolve 12.x and back again. Black Magic Design’s DaVinci Resolve is a popular and affordable application for color grading on Mac OS X, Windows or Linux. Reel World: Pro Con Pro Con

The New Mexico Film & Media Industry Conference 2016 gets underway Friday and Saturday, Nov. 11 and 12, at Isleta Resort & Casino. This two-day conference offers our state’s film community—from actors to script supervisors to indie filmmakers—access to panel discussions, guest speakers, professional presentations and important networking opportunities. This year will see the debut of the Emergent Media Playground, an interactive environment designed to encourage attendees to touch and feel the technology of the future. Dozens of local film-and-media-related vendors will be showing off their goods and services as well. Among the topics being discussed this year are “The Future of Television,” “Working Actors—New Mexico and Beyond,” “Emerging Media” and “Location Myth Busting.” It’s too late to register online, but you can still grab weekend passes onsite. They’ll set you back $110 for the full conference ($85 for students) or $90 for a one-day pass. Registration starts at 8am on Friday. Reel World: Searching For Soldiers Searching For Soldiers

Sande Alessi Casting is on the lookout for extras for the upcoming feature Horse Soldiers, set to shoot here in New Mexico starting sometime in late 2016. The film is based on the incredible true story of US Special Forces assigned to fight a Northern Alliance warlord and drive out the Taliban against overwhelming odds in the rugged mountain region of Afghanistan. (And, yes, they rode on horses.) Pirates of the Caribbean producer Jerry Bruckheimer is producing this one for the director, acclaimed photojournalist Nicolai Fuglsig. Chris Hemsworth (Thor) and Michael Shannon (Man of Steel) are among the actors signed on to star. The production team will be traveling throughout New Mexico and Texas to cast the film. They’re looking for “people of all ages, types and ethnicities.” You must be 18 years of age with a valid social security number to apply. There will be an open casting call on Sunday, Nov. 20, from 11am to 4pm at Aux Dog Theater (3011 Monte Vista NE). Would-be background talent are advised to register beforehand at by uploading a current photo.
