The newly minted Roswell International Sci Fi Film Festival is looking for eager filmmakers to fill out its schedule. Firstly, they’re looking for screenwriters. Submit your 12-page (or less) film script by May 6 (entry fee is $15) and you could be given a $1,500 grant to film your movie, June 25 through July 2, at the festival’s Seven Day Shoot Out. It’s like the Duke City Shootout, only … in Roswell. You can also register now for a Roswell summer film camp, a 30-day intensive short-film boot camp, or submit a finished sci-fi/fantasy film for consideration. Deadline for film submission is June 10 (and will also run you $15 per entry). The festival itself is scheduled to take place at the Roswell Museum and Art Center in early July.
Odd Thomas , a supernatural thriller based on the book by Dean Koontz, has added some new cast members. The film will shoot in the Santa Fe / Albuquerque area from May 2 through July 15. In addition to star Anton Yelchin (Chekov from Star Trek ), actor Willem Dafoe and comedian Patton Oswalt have been confirmed as cast additions. Tim Robbins has also been rumored as a cast member, but that has yet to be confirmed. Yelchin just got done filming the Fright Night remake here in New Mexico, so it’s a return trip for him. Koontz’ original novel is about a short-order cook with the ability to see ghosts, who encounters a mysterious man linked to dark, dangerous powers. The film will be directed by Stephen Sommers ( The Mummy, G.I. Joe: The Rise of Cobra ).
Speaking of Odd Thomas , the film is looking to cast African-American girls ages 5 to 6 and 9 to 10 in speaking roles. For an appointment or audition, email a photo and a résumé of your child to email@example.com. Be sure to include your contact information and your child’s age. These are Screen Actors Guild paid positions.
There will be an audition session this Saturday, April 23, from 1 to 3 p.m. at The Box Performance Space for the lead actress in an upcoming indie comedy. The role is described as a woman in her 20s who is “caught in a bad situation.” If you’re interested, email a head shot and résumé to firstname.lastname@example.org. You will be contacted for an audition time. This is an unpaid, non-union feature. Principal photography will take place on weekends in May. The film comes from Uncanny Entertainment (producers of the web series “The Scare Game”), is directed by Phillip Hughes ( Jigoku ), and is written by Scott Bryan and Jennifer Daugherty. The Box Performance Space is located at 100 Gold SE.
