June 22 through 24, Famous Monsters of Filmland will present the inaugural Roswell Comic-Con and Film Fest. Jason Faunt (the Red Ranger from “Power Rangers: Time Force”), Jessica Rey (the White Ranger from “Power Rangers: Wild Force”) and Nakia Burrise (the Yellow Ranger from “Power Rangers: Turbo”) are among the celebrity guests. So, “Power Rangers” fans are totally freaking set.

If you’re interested in being part of the film fest portion of the weekend, you can submit short or feature-length films through withoutabox.com. If you don’t have a finished film, you can submit a short (12 pages or less) sci-fi/fantasy screenplay. Five winners will be chosen to participate in a one-week digital media shoot-out just prior to the Comic-Con and Film Fest. The lucky screenwriters will travel to Roswell to take their idea “from script to screen.” Their hastily assembled films will be debuted “to much fanfare” at the weekend film fest. Deadline for all submissions is 1:01 a.m. on Saturday, May 19.

The South Broadway Cultural Center (1025 Broadway SE) closes out its incredibly cool El Santo film festival this Monday, May 21, with 1972’s Santo en Anónimo Mortal. The film—generally translated as the somewhat prosaic Santo and the Anonymous Death Threat —is one of the more obscure in the wrestling hero’s pantheon of films. In it, the enmascarado finds himself battling evil Nazi assassins. A few monsters or some space aliens might have been nice, but we’ll take what we can get. Doors open at 7:30 p.m., film begins at 8 p.m.
