Actors, there will be a casting call for the sci-fi social networking film 0000 (catchy title, no?) this Thursday, Nov. 18. Casting will be from 9:45 a.m. to 7:30 p.m. at the Clarion Hotel (7620 Pan American Freeway NE). Compensation is dependent on the particular role. Producers are looking to fill the following parts: two police officers, a TV host, an 11-year-old girl, a teacher and a homeless people. Extras in the following categories are also needed: kids ages 9 through 11, teenagers, people ages 30 to 50 and “crackhead look-alikes.” All actors, male and female, must be willing to shave their heads. Reel World: Go Boom Go Boom
Do you like to blow things up? Dick Hogle, Licensed High Explosive Charter Member Local 480, will teach a two-day special effects workshop. The workshop is intended as an introduction to the art of physical (non-CGI) effects such as fire, rain, snow, bullet hits and the aforementioned explosions. Permits, licensing, record keeping, safety and other responsible actions will be covered in detail. The workshop will include hands-on training as well as a written final test of subjects covered. Part of the workshop will take place in a classroom setting, and part will be in a “safe and secure” outdoor area. If you’re interested, you can RSVP to Mr. Hogle at (505) 753-6333. The workshop is on Saturday and Sunday, Nov. 20 and 21. A $20 fee gets you a seat.
Reel World: Be Funny Be Funny
Friends of Film, Video and Arts will have its monthly meeting this Sunday, Nov. 21, from 3 to 5:30 p.m. at the Harwood Art Center. As always, the meeting will include social time, short-film screenings and a lecture program. This month’s topic is “101 Ways to Make a Funny Film.” Jessi Badami and Randy Nargi of Bogwood Films and Matt Page of RiffRaff New Media will be there to give tips on writing, directing, acting, editing and other laugh-inducing tasks.
