This Friday, the CCA Cinematheque will also begin screening the born-and-bred-in-New Mexico feature Before We Say Goodbye. The film is based on Albuquerque playwright Patricia Crespin’s play We Are Hispanic-American Women… OK? The film version was shot in 2010 throughout New Mexico and on location in Mexico at the Basilica of Our Lady of Guadalupe and at the pyramids of Teotihuacan. The story concentrates on four generations of Hispanic women who struggle with the news that the patriarch of their family will soon pass away. The film was co-written and co-produced by Crespin and directed by Paul Davids (a Golden Globe nominee for the 1994 film Roswell with Kyle MacLachlan). Before We Say Goodbye will screen Friday, May 20, at 3 p.m., and Saturday and Sunday, May 21 and 22, at 12:30 p.m.

Reel World: Creepy People Need Apply Creepy People Need Apply

A self-described “low-budget independent feature film” is casting about for men and women of all ages (including children) for speaking and non-speaking roles. Some parts will be paid, depending on the role. Though details of the shoot are being kept under wraps, producers say they have a special need for older men and women, ages 40 to 80, who can portray a character that “has a creepy/spooky vibe.” Some parts may require slight to heavy makeup, so be prepared for that. Shooting is scheduled for June and July. For an appointment to audition, email a head shot and a résumé to: nmfilmproduction@gmail.com.

Rebel One Pictures will begin shooting The Boys of Abu Ghraib , a low-budget Iraq War-set psychological drama, in and around Santa Fe next month. Producers are on the hunt for crew members. The positions of gaffer, key grip, second assistant director, line producer, prop master and key wardrobe are up for grabs. These will be paid positions. If you’re interested, reply with your résumé and a brief cover letter. Send as many samples of your work as you can provide to ewa@rebelonepictures.com. Production is tentatively set for June through July.
