Tractor Brewing Wells Park Tap Room (1800 Fourth Street NW) taps into the spirit of Halloween this Friday, Oct. 26, with a screening of the classic silent horror film The Cabinet of Dr. Caligari. Robert Wiene’s 1920 film, about a mad hypnotist who uses a sleepwalking slave to commit murders, is considered a masterpiece of German Expressionism. Accompanying the film is “electroacoustic” musician/composer Tom Foe, performing a live score at the venue. This spooky cinematic event goes from 8 to 10pm. Admission is free. Reel World: Magic Hour Magic Hour

Corpus Arts and The Albuquerque Zine Library are joining forces to conjure up Practical Magic: Movie and Zine Reading. Sunday, Oct. 28 from 9 to 11pm, Albuquerque’s queer art, culture and literacy center (123 Seventh Street NW) opens its doors for a reading of select local zines and a screening of the 1998 Sandra Bullock/Nicole Kidman movie Practical Magic. The supernatural comedy-drama is based on Alice Hoffman’s novel about a pair of witch sisters, raised by their eccentric aunts in small-town Washington, who battle closed-minded prejudice and a curse that prevents them from ever finding lasting love. Admission is free, but donations are welcome.

Reel World: Down To Clown? Down To Clown?

On Halloween Night—Wednesday, Oct. 31—Tractor Brewing’s Nob Hill Tap Room (118 Tulane Dr. SE) plays host to a special book event. Author Benjamin Radford is there that night, pint in hand, reading scary selections from his UNM Press-published book Bad Clowns. The award-winning nonfiction book explores the phenomenon of “bad clowns” in popular culture: from John Wayne Gacy to Stephen King’s Pennywise, from The Joker to Krusty the Clown, from Ronald McDonald to Killer Klowns from Outer Space. Radford is also the author of Tracking the Chupacabra; Mysterious New Mexico: Miracles, Magic and Monsters in the Land of Enchantment and Investigating Ghosts: The Scientific Search for Spirits. Reel World: Theater Of The Blood Theater Of The Blood

The KiMo Theatre in downtown Albuquerque (423 Central Ave. NW) offers up its annual Haunted KiMo Tour this Wednesday, Oct. 31. Guests are invited to take a behind-the-scenes tour of the unexplainable, spooky and dark legends behind the historic venue. Hear some fascinating history and get the inside scoop on tragic moments from the past. There is a tour at 6pm and a tour at 7:15pm. Tickets are a mere $5, but availability is extremely limited.
