KiMo Theatre (423 Central NW) launches a tribute to acclaimed actor Sir Anthony Hopkins with another fine film series. The Anthony Hopkins Festival launches this Sunday, April 27, at 2pm with the 1980 award winner The Elephant Man. John Hurt got the lion’s share of the attention for his title role in this real-life biopic, but Hopkins is terrific as the sympathetic surgeon Sir Frederick Treves. Future installments include 1984’s The Bounty (May 11), 1991’s The Silence of the Lambs (May 25), 1993’s The Remains of the Day (June 15) and 2012’s Hitchcock (June 29). Tickets are $7 general admission and $5 for students/seniors. Go to kimotickets.com for more info.

The deadline is fast approaching for filmmakers to submit an entry to the “Above the Line New Mexico” ad contest. The contest is being sponsored by I-25 Studios, Albuquerque Studios, Santa Fe Studios, Century Bank, Reelz and Film!ABQ to encourage the growth of local “above the line” talent like writers, producers and directors. Would-be filmmakers are encouraged to submit a 30-second commercial promoting the City of Albuquerque’s BioPark (zoo, botanic garden, aquarium, etc.). The first place submission will win $1,500 and will air on local network television. The top 25 entrants will have their work screened at an “industry studded gala event” hosted by the City of Albuquerque at the KiMo Theatre on May 22. You have until April 30 to send in your entry. For a complete list of rules and regulations, go to atlnm.com.

The locally produced young adult drama CENTS is looking for male and female actors between the ages of 11 and 14. The film—based on Christopher Boone’s Sundance Institute Screenwriting Lab-selected script of the same name—centers on the character of Sammy, “an uncommonly smart 12-year-old girl who uses her gift for mathematics and enlists her frenemies to revamp the school penny drive into a major moneymaking operation.” The film is scheduled to shoot in Albuquerque this July. Auditions will take place Saturday, April 26, and Sunday, April 27, by appointment only. Headshots and resumés need to be sent to centsthemovie@gmail.com by 5pm, Thursday, April 24.
