Legendary B-movie director and president of Troma Films Lloyd Kaufman is returning to New Mexico this weekend (Nov. 20, 21 and 22) for the sixth annual TromaDance New Mexico Film Festival. Starting this Friday night, TromaDance will unhook the leash and let three days’ worth of mind-bending, low-budget, high-trash cinema loose inside the Guild Cinema. The redoubtable Mr. Kaufman starts things off properly on Friday night by digging into his film vault and coming up with a couple of Troma classics: 1996’s Shakespearian gore comedy Tromeo & Juliet and the 1980 slasher flick Mother’s Day (currently being remade by Saw II / Repo! The Genetic Opera director Darren Lynn Bousman). Other highlights from the weekend include the long-awaited (make that looooong -awaited) premiere of the Albuquerque-lensed superhero parody Defective Man!, the raunchy Twilight parody Taintlight (courtesy of Teenape Goes to Camp, Ski Wolf and Mulva: Zombie Ass-Kicker director Chris Seaver), the ’70s horror/blaxploitation pastiche Black Devil Doll and a whole messload of short film blocks (each one featuring an episode of Alibi graphic designer Jeff Drew’s awesome animated series “One Square Mile of Earth”).Individual tickets and all-festival passes are available now at Burning Paradise (800 Central SW) and at Guild Cinema (3405 Central NE).
