Award-winning underground film king Jon Moritsugu ( Terminal USA, Fame Whore, Scumrock, Mod Fuck Explosion ) will teach an intensive, one-day crash course on low-budget film and video production and distribution. The workshop will take place Saturday, Jan. 16, from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. at Warehouse 21 in Santa Fe (1614 Paseo de Peralta). The class will set filmmakers back a mere $50. Moritsugu’s crash course will focus on low- and no-budget solutions to common problems—from “finding a crew who will work for free” to “film festival scams.” Moritsugu has written, directed and produced more than a dozen films for between $100 and $360,000. His work has played at festivals and exhibits around the world, including Sundance Film Festival, Toronto International Film Festival, New York Underground Film Festival, New York’s Museum of Modern Art, the Guggenheim and the Museum of Modern Art in Paris. Lora Cunningham, a graduate of the American Academy of Dramatic Arts, has been working in film, television and commercials for 12 years. Cunningham will teach two 10-week acting classes at Albuquerque Studios starting this month. The Beginning Level Course launches Wednesday, Jan. 20. The Intermediate Level Course gets underway Tuesday, Jan. 19. The focus will be on acting, auditioning and on-camera performance. Class size is limited to 12. Cost for either level class is $350. Reel World: Film Goes To The Dog Film Goes To The Dog
Albuquerque’s Auxiliary Dog Theatre is teaming up with several local filmmaking organizations to present the inaugural Aux Dog Film Festival. The first weekend (Jan. 15 and 16), will feature cutting-edge independent films selected by UNM’s high-tech Interdisciplinary Film and Digital Media program. Weekend two (Jan. 22 and 23) spotlights short films by the newly formed Albuquerque Film Guild, a collective of locally based independent filmmakers interested in growing an innovative and creative moviemaking community here in our home state. Weekend three (Jan. 29 and 30) will be the culmination of Interdisciplinary Film and Digital Media’s Weekend Film Project. Between Jan. 22 and Jan. 24, aspiring filmmakers will be given just three days to complete a 5-to-15-minute film. The results will be screened at Aux Dog. The Aux Dog Film Fest will take place Fridays and Saturdays at 8 p.m. through Jan. 30. All seats are $10. Auxiliary Dog Theatre is located at 3011 Monte Vista NE.
