This year, Albuquerque Pride is adding a new component—a cinematic one. The newly minted PrideFilm Festival is designed to promote the film industry and Albuquerque’s LGBT community at the same time. PrideFilm is on the hunt for folks who are eager to get behind the camera. You’ll have the entire month of May to create a five-minute masterpiece under the guidance of professional mentors from IATSE 480. Films will screen during the PrideFilm Festival on June 30. Entry fee is $50, and that includes one ticket to Albuquerque PrideFest. It also entitles you to a 50 percent discount on rental equipment at Serious Grippage. Reel World: Blue Movie Blue Movie
Blue Alchemy: Stories of Indigo is Corrales-based producer-director Mary Lance’s involving documentary about the cultural history of a single color. It will screen Thursday, April 26, at The Screen in Santa Fe (1600 St. Michael’s Drive) beginning at 7 p.m. Lance and her crew traveled the world—from El Salvador to Bangladesh—to show how a simple dye has affected culture, commerce and art through the ages. New Mexico Women in Film will present a special workshop on Saturday, April 28, from 10:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Think you’ve got what it takes to be a director? Find out when longtime television director Janet Davidson (“Cagney & Lacey,” “Earth 2,” “Judging Amy”) teaches filmmaking “from the artist’s point of view.” Topics covered in this daylong workshop include, “The Script, The Team, The Preparation, The Casting, The Shot List, The Shoot Day and The Edit.” It all takes place at the Aldea Community Center in Santa Fe (3 Nuevo Milenio). If you’re a New Mexico filmmaker with an already finished short or feature-length movie, I should probably remind you that Tuesday, May 1, is the regular deadline to get your work submitted to the 2012 Santa Fe Independent Film Festival. After this, entry fees jump quite a bit for the late deadline on July 1. All submissions need to be sent through Without a Box. This year’s SFIFF will take place Oct. 17 through 21.
