The upcoming Santa Fe Film Festival will present a special “sneak preview” night at the National Hispanic Cultural Center in Albuquerque this Thursday, Nov. 15. Beginning at 7:30 p.m., the NHCC (1701 Fourth Street SW) will screen the Spanish-language (with English subtitles) film August Evening . Filmmaker Chris Eska will be present and SFFF director Stephen Rubin will introduce the program. August Evening tells the story of an aging, undocumented farm worker named Jaime (Pedro Castaneda) and his young, widowed daughter-in-law, Lupe (Veronica Loren), as they struggle to survive and find love in Mexico. Do Your Doc
This Friday, Saturday and Sunday, the National Association of Latino Independent Producers is conducting a three-day workshop called “Doing Your Doc: Diverse Visions, Regional Voices” at the National Hispanic Cultural Center. Story consultant Fernanda Rossi, author of the book Trailer Mechanics , will be on hand to mentor participants on proposals, trailers or documentary ideas. The workshop is open to filmmakers from the diverse communities of New Mexico, whether you’re just beginning, have already shot footage or are seeking finishing funds. Short Shortz
This Saturday, Nov. 17, the Taos Shortz Film Festival will spotlight 28 short films from around the globe. India, Spain, Switzerland and New Zealand are all represented, as is the good old United States. Animation, romance, drama, comedy and documentary are just a few of the genres that crop up. The films are broken up into three seperate screening blocks, all of which will take place at the Taos Community Auditorium. You heard right, the 2007 TromaDance New Mexico film festival gets underway this Friday, Saturday and Sunday at the Guild Cinema in Nob Hill.
