Classes are filling up at the University of New Mexico for the fall 2007 semester. That means the SouthWest Film Center at UNM is back with another season of great cinema. SWFC reopens on Thursday, Aug. 23. with a two-week tribute to recently deceased film legends Ingmar Bergman and Michelangelo Antonioni. Bergman’s 1968 drama Hour of the Wolf and Antonioni’s 1960 classic L’Aventura will screen as a double-feature Aug. 23-26. Bergman’s autobiographical 1982 film Fanny and Alexander and Antonioni’s 1962 anti-romance L’Eclisse will be double-featured Aug. 30 through Sept. 2. Voices Of Youth
Youth Development, Inc. is showing off four short documentaries produced by the student filmmakers of their new after-school program “Mi Voz.” Topics range from not fitting in at school to the influence of gangs. The premiere screening will happen Saturday, Aug. 25, from 6 to 9 p.m. at the KiMo Theatre (423 Central NW). Mi Voz is a free after-school program that teaches middle school-aged youth how to produce, direct, shoot and edit digital documentaries. The program started in February 2007 and ended this August. Mi Voz will start recruiting students for the next semester on Sept. 10-11 from 4-6 p.m. at the Wool Warehouse (516 First Street NW). For more info, log on to www.ydi.org.

Mulehead in Towncraft
On Aug. 24, the Atomic Cantina will host a unique screening/concert for the new documentary Towncraft. The film covers the evolution of the Little Rock, Ark., punk rock scene in the early-’80s. Producers are releasing the film simultaneously in theaters, via DVD and online. The Albuquerque show is part of a series of one-night-only, cross-country, DIY screenings which are being organized in conjunction with the film’s DVD box-set/2-disc soundtrack release. Keeping up the musical atmosphere, a nationwide concert tour accompanies each film screening. After the film, local bands The Unemploid, Demons and Polaroid Pornography will play the Albuquerque leg.
