Pioneering Taos architect Michael Reynolds is the subject of a new documentary titled Garbage Warrior . The film–exploring Reynolds’ efforts to build environmentally friendly homes (known as “Earthships”) out of beer cans, car tires and water bottles–premiered last week on the Sundance Channel and was bolstered by an appearance by Reynolds on Comedy Central’s “The Colbert Report.” The visionary green architect will make an appearance at Santa Fe’s CCA Cinematheque (1050 Old Pecos Trail) on Friday, April 11 (8 p.m.), and Saturday, April 12 (11:30 a.m.), to introduce Garbage Warrior and to launch his new book, Journey Part 1 , which chronicles the growth of the Earthship movement. Tickets are $8 for CCA members or $10 for nonmembers.
Governor’s Cup Deadline
For the fourth year in a row, Gov. Bill Richardson and the New Mexico Film Office have announced a call for entries for the Governor’s Cup Competition. This year’s statewide competition will focus on short animation. New Mexico filmmakers are encouraged to submit a treatment for a short (less than 10-minute) animated project. Two winners will have the opportunity to bring thier idea to life with assistance from All Roads Film Project, Pangea Pictures, IATSE 480, the ARTSLab at UNM and the Creative Media Institute at NMSU. The two winners will each receive $10,000 toward the budget. Additional support in the form of mentors and animation gear will be provided by contest sponsors. Winners will be selected in one of two categories: Short Animation and Indiginous/Minority Culture Animation. The Governor’s Cup Competition is open to New Mexico residents only and is free to enter. The deadline for completed applications is Wednesday, April 16. Application forms and guidelines can be downloaded from the Film Office website at www.nmfilm.com.

On Location Casting is looking for paid extras for the upcoming feature film Observe and Report, starring Knocked Up ’s Seth Rogan. The film is scheduled to shoot in the Albuquerque area from April through June. Casting directors have a need for all types of men, women and children, all ages, all ethnicities.
