The eighth annual Santa Fe Film Festival is still looking for volunteers. This year’s fest is set to take place Wednesday, Nov. 28, through, Sunday, Dec. 2. Just one four-hour shift translates into two free movie tickets. Not a bad deal, if you ask me. People are needed immediately for festival box office, set up and orientation as well as for staffing. Speaking of the Santa Fe Film Festival, tickets and passes will go on sale this Friday, Nov. 9. Tickets run $10 apiece or $75 for a 10-pack. All-Film passes are $300, All-Festival passes are $450. Many of the films, particularly the high-profile ones on opening and closing nights, will sell out. I suggest you head right over to the festival’s website (www.santafefilmfestival.com), download a complete schedule of films, circle the ones you like, call the box office at (505) 988-7414 and purchase those tickets as soon as possible. There’s an incredible sampling of national, international and locally made films this year, and you don’t want to be the poor schmuck who misses out.
Hit The Slopes
New Mexico has more than its fair share of ski bums and bunnies. If you can’t wait for the snow to blanket our state so you can finally strap on your skis, you might find inspiration in this weekend’s screening of the new Warren Miller film Playground . Believe it or not, this is Miller’s 58 th annual ski flick. This one feature narration by Olympic gold medalist Jonny Moseley, a visit to a ski resort in the middle of the Dubai desert, a segment on ski racing king Bode Miller, a trip to Alaska’s untouched Chugach Range with X-Games gold medalists and some astonishing aerial acrobatics all the way from Sweden. In other words: Powderheads will be in heaven. The Santa Fe Film Center, located at 1616 St. Michael’s Drive, will host two screenings at 6 and 8:30 p.m. on Friday, Nov. 9. Tickets are priced at $10 and will be available on the day of the screening at the Santa Fe Film Center Box Office, in the St. Michael’s Village West Shopping Mall.
