Thursday 13 Wu: The Story of the Wu-Tang Clan (BET 6 p.m.) This two-hour documentary about the hip-hop legend sounds great, but I fear it diminishes the importance of the Tang. “Ancient Discoveries” (History 7 p.m.) Sure, history is occasionally boring. But when your “ancient discovery” is “ancient torture tech,” it gets interesting again. “30 Rock” (KOB-4 8:30 p.m.) “30 Rock” continues its guest star run with Jennifer Aniston as a psycho stalker girlfriend. (Typecasting?) Friday 14 “Supernanny: Super-Manny Special” (KOAT-7 8 p.m.) Genius. Think of how many more bad TV shows ABC could generate simply by changing the gender of its stars. “The Price is Right Salutes Our Troops” (KRQE-13 8 p.m.) During World War II, troops got Bob Hope, the Andrews Sisters, Fred Astaire, Duke Ellington and Judy Garland. During Korea, they got Bob Hope, Marilyn Monroe and Jane Russell. During Vietnam, they got Bob Hope, John Wayne and Ann-Margret. Today, they get Jessica Simpson and “The Price Is Right.” Sorry, guys. Saturday 15 “Ricky Gervais: Out of England–The Stand-Up Special” (HBO 7 p.m.) The creator of “The Office” and “Extras” gets his first stateside standup special. Sunday 16 “TRL Finale” (MTV 9 p.m.) It’s the end of an era, folks. “TRL” calls it a day with past host Carson Daly and current host Damien Fahey reminiscing over the last 10 years. … Where will all the screaming teenage girls go now? “Jeff Dunham’s Very Special Christmas Special” (Comedy Central 10 p.m.) I’m not saying all comedians with ventriloquist dummies should be hunted down and shot. I’m just saying we should be keeping a very close eye on them. Monday 17 “CSI: Miami” (KRQE-13 9 p.m.) “CSI: Miami” celebrates its 150 th show. That’s like 400 times that David Caruso has ripped the sunglasses off his face in a dramatic gesture of concern. “Direct From the Moon” (National Geographic 7 p.m.) A Japanese lunar orbiter takes HD snapshots of the moon’s surface. Yet another excuse to own an HD TV. Tuesday 18 “Extreme Loggers” (Discovery 7 p.m.) Anyone remember last issue when I cautioned TLC’s “Extreme Trains” for superfluous application of the word “extreme”? … Apparently, Discovery Channel doesn’t. “Brothers to Brutha” (BET 8:30 p.m.) Five brothers from South Central Los Angeles form their own R&B act (called–what else?–Brutha) and land a reality show before they even record an album. Welcome to fame, 21 st century style. Wednesday 19 “Time Warp” (Discovery 6:30 p.m.) More properly titled “Fun With Slo-Mo Cameras,” this high-concept show allows scientists to put the freeze frame on fast stuff. Tonight’s can’t-miss topic: break dancing! “Shaken Not Stirred” (KASY-50 8 p.m.) Pamela Anderson gets the sub-“Friar’s Club Roast,” sub-“Dean Martin Celebrity Roast,” sub-“Comedy Central Roasts” treatment on MyNetworkTV, proving–as if there were any doubt–that this woman’s “best by” date expired long ago.
