Thursday 25

“Exodus Earth” (Science 8 p.m.) If the Earth becomes uninhabitable, where will we live? Dr. Basil Singer scopes out the possibilities for us. Thanks, man. We’re looking for something near the beach. With good schools.

“Penn & Teller: Bullshit!” (Showtime 8 p.m.) Penn & Teller kick off the seventh season of their “truth in advertising” series by calling bullshit on … orgasms?

Friday 26

Virtuality (KASA-2 7 p.m.) FOX seems determined to crush yet another promising sci-fi premise by sticking it in the Friday night death slot. This one’s about a group of astronauts stuck on a 10-year space flight who pass the time in virtual reality … that is until something goes wrong with the computer program. It’s produced by some of the folks behind “Battlestar Galactica.” It was supposed to be a weekly series, but this two-hour pilot looks to be all she wrote.

Saturday 27

“Doctor Who” (BBC America 7 p.m.) Last year’s BBC Christmas special, “The Next Doctor,” makes it onto American airwaves. It features the return of the Cybermen and an appearance by a guy (David Morrissey) whom the vast majority of fans know at this point is not the next doctor.

Sunday 28

“BET Awards ’09” (BET 7 p.m.) Jamie Foxx hosts. Fabolous, Ne-Yo, Young Jeezy and Soulja Boy perform. And Tiger Woods goes head-to-head with Kobe Bryant for Male Athlete of the Year honors.

“Prehistoric: New York” (Discovery 7 p.m.) Funny thing is cross-town traffic still sucked.

“Hung” (HBO 8 p.m.) This titillating new comedy follows the adventures of a high school coach (Thomas Jane) just trying to get by in life with the help of his gigantic schlong. … No, really.

Monday 29

“Shouting Fire: Stories From the Edge of Free Speech” (HBO 7 p.m.) Filmmaker Liz Garbus examines recent cases of free speech and the First Amendment.

Tuesday 30

“Stager Invasion” (TLC 6 p.m.) Do network executives not watch other TV stations? How else to explain the dozens of repetitive shows about people getting married or having a bunch of babies or trying to dance? Here we have a show about stagers, those people who charge a bunch of money to come in and toss a few throw pillows around a house in the hopes that it sells faster. Aside from the fact that it’s not really very interesting, there are already a couple reality shows around the dial dedicated to the profession.

“Tiny & Toya” (BET 8 p.m.) Now that rapper T.I. is in jail, BET is stuck following up his MTV reality show with one starring the guy’s babymama. She’s joined by Lil’ Wayne’s ex-wife Toya Johnson-Carter.

Wednesday 1

“MyNetworkTV Special: Baggin’ ” (KASY-50 7 p.m.) MyNetworkTV doesn’t seem to want to tell anyone what this two-hour special is about. It could be a two-year-old Ralphie May comedy jam. Or it could be a grocery bagging competition. I’m hoping for the latter.
