Thursday 4“Killing the Colorado” (Discovery 7pm) This cheerful documentary examines the slow, man-made demise of the Colorado River, a waterway that sustains 40 million people (including one or two here in New Mexico).Friday 5The Little Prince (Netflix streaming anytime) This gorgeous 3D-animated adaptation of Antoine de Saint-Exupéry’s beloved children’s book comes from the director of Kung Fu Panda and the writer of The Boxtrolls. It features the voices of Jeff Bridges, Rachel McAdams, Paul Rudd, Marion Cotillard, Benicio Del Toro, James Franco, Albert Brooks, Ricky Gervais and Paul Giamatti. It was supposed to be released in American theaters this spring but was dropped at the last second without explanation. Luckily, Netflix rescued the award-winning effort and is debuting it on the company’s streaming service.“Kitten Summer Games” (Hallmark 6pm) Sure, you could watch the world’s premiere athletes compete in games of skill, dexterity, strength and endurance. Or you could just watch kittens with punny nicknames (Tabby Douglas, Hissy May) pretend to wrestle and play volleyball and stuff.Saturday 62 Lava 2 Lantula! (Syfy 7pm) This makes no sense, Syfy. I mean, a sequel to a movie about lava-spewing arachnids starring Steve Guttenberg makes no sense to begin with. But that title! Did someone have a stroke while coming up with it? I’m asking in all seriousness.Sorority Nightmare (Lifetime 6pm) If you’ve been playing Lifetime’s “Things That Will Kill You in Suburbia” Bingo, you can now add “sororities” to your card alongside stepmothers, stepfathers, stepkids, adopted kids, lifeguards, teachers, coaches, neighbors, internet dating and sexting. The Bandit (CMT 11pm) Following an airing of Smokey and the Bandit at 8:30pm, CMT gifts us with this documentary in which Burt Reynolds and the crew of the classic 1977 comedy remember their experiences with director and stuntman Hal Needham.Sunday 7“Top Ten Weather Phobias” (The Weather Channel 7pm) Oh, yeah. I’m terrified of sleet. Not the phenomenon so much as the word. Sleet. Creeps me out.Monday 8Hitchcock/Truffaut (HBO 7pm) “Back in 1962 legendary filmmakers Alfred Hitchcock and Francois Truffaut locked themselves away in Hollywood for a week to discuss the secrets behind the art of cinema. The result was Truffaut’s 1966 book Cinema According to Hitchcock. This documentary digs up the actual recordings of those meetings and lets us in on the magic of two moviemaking icons talking shop. Martin Scorsese, David Fincher, Kiyoshi Kurosawa, Wes Anderson, Olivier Assayas, Richard Linklater and Peter Bogdanovich are among the modern filmmakers weighing in on the masters’ master class.
