Thursday 30

“Iron Men” (Weather Channel 7 p.m.) Bored with talking about, you know, the weather, The Weather Channel tries its hand at some docu-reality shows. Here’s one about high-rise iron workers.

Friday 31

Summer Under the Stars Salute to James Caan (TCM 6 a.m.) Often unsung movie bad-ass James Caan gets a daylong tribute. Try this on for size: 1968’s Submarine X-1 , 1973’s Slither , 1976’s Harry and Walter Go To New York , 1977’s Another Man, Another Chance , 1978’s Comes a Horseman , 1980’s Chapter Two , 1975’s Rollerball , 1980’s Hide in Plain Sight , 1981’s Thief , 1968’s Countdown , 1969’s The Rain People .

Saturday 1

“Doctor Who” (BBC America 7 p.m.) Damn, it’s about time. I don’t think I could tough out another week of “Best of Doctor Who” clip shows. Here we finally get the seventh season premiere, “Asylum of the Daleks” … which I’m assuming has Daleks in it. That might be enough for me to forgive you and your merciless teasing, BBC America.

Sunday 2

“The Chew presents ABC’s Primetime Fall Preview Special” (KOAT-7 6 p.m.) The hosts of ABC’s daytime talk/cooking show “The Chew” expose us to all the shows ABC is trying to pawn off on us this season. How can you beat Mario Batali shilling some sitcom called “Family Tools”?

“TV’s Most Dynamic Duos: Presented by the Paley Center for Media” (KOAT-7 8 p.m.) Lucy and Ethel, Batman and Robin, Sam and Diane, Pat Sajak and Vanna White, Beavis and Butthead, Snooki and JWOWW: The Paley Center salutes TV’s most enduring team-ups.

Monday 3

Coma (A&E 7 p.m.) A&E kinda screwed up on 2008’s weaksauce mini-series adaptation of Michael Crichton’s The Andromeda Strain . I have higher hopes for this two-night take on Robin Cook’s Coma . The source novel is far dumber and the original movie much less well-regarded—so let’s just settle in for some trashy fun.

“Little People, Big World: Down Under” (TLC 9 p.m.) The “Little People, Big World” cast goes to Australia for this one-hour special. My gosh, they’re just like 20 million other tourists a year, only shorter! … Is it wrong for me not to be fascinated by little people doing completely ordinary things?

Tuesday 4

“The 2012 Democratic National Convention” (KOB-4/KOAT-7/KRQE-13 8 p.m.) Political parties need to be granted equal time by networks. Since the Republicans got to bore us last week with their pep rally, the Democrats get their shot this week.

“Dragons: Riders of Berk” (Cartoon Network 8:30 p.m.) DreamWorks’ How to Train Your Dragon gets transformed into a weekly cartoon.

Wednesday 5

“NFL Football: Dallas Cowboys at New York Giants” (KOB-4 6:30 p.m.) Preseason is finally over and football lovers can start watching real games for a change. I know how you feel, sports fans. Have I told you about the whole BBC/“Doctor Who” thing?
