TCM Spotlight: Mack Sennett (TCM 6 p.m.) TCM salutes silent movie producer extraordinaire Mack Sennett with a 31-film tribute!

“2012 MTV Video Music Awards” (MTV 9 p.m.) Does anybody still make videos anymore? Isn’t it just the MTV Music Awards at this point?

Friday 7

“Stand Up to Cancer” (KASA-2, KOB-4, KOAT-7, KRQE-13 7 p.m.) Celebrities and performers such as Taylor Swift, Coldplay, Alicia Keys and Tim McGraw urge you to get off your ass and cure cancer. Because you’ve done a lousy job so far.

Saturday 8

“9/11 Emergency Room” (TLC 6 p.m.) TLC gets a jump on all the 9/11 anniversary programming by airing a night of 9/11 programming starting with this doc-rocking documentary.

“Doctor Who” (BBC America 7 p.m.) To hell with Snakes on a Plane , tonight’s “Doctor Who” episode gives us “Dinosaurs on a Spaceship.”

“I Was Impaled: Don’t Pull It Out!” (Health 8 p.m.) Aaaand, Discovery Health successfully debuts the only docu-reality series I’d like to appear on less than “Jersey Shore.”

“9/11: The Fireman’s Story” (National Geographic 8 p.m.) NatGeo follows TLC’s lead, airing its own collection of 9/11-centric flashbacks. Looks like somebody’s been reading those “Never Forget” bumper stickers.

Sunday 9

“Broadway or Bust” (KNME-5 7 p.m.) Obviously, PBS has given up. Here, they present one of those singing/dancing reality show competitions that every other network in creation already airs.

“Breaking Amish” (TLC 8 p.m.) I’m just gonna come out and say it: The people who run TLC are weirdoes. They think little people, overly fertile families and the Amish are the three most fascinating things on the planet. Apparently, they’ll greenlight any TV series that involves one of those elements. One day, somebody’s gonna locate a couple of Mennonite midgets with 20 kids, and every brain in the network’s programming department will explode at once.

“Robot Chicken” (Cartoon Network 1 a.m.) “Robot Chicken” opens its sixth season by spoofing DC Comics for an entire episode. Take that, Aquaman!

Monday 10

The Crimson Petal and the White (Encore 6 p.m.) A Victorian-era Londoner hooks up with a renowned prostitute in this classy-yet-naughty miniseries.

“CBS Fall Preview” (KRQE-13 7:30 p.m.) Kat Dennings and Beth Behrs (from “2 Broke Girls”) try to convince us why we should be watching “Made in New Jersey” this season. Sadly, I’m inclined to listen to most things Kat Dennings tells me.

Tuesday 11

“Bomb Girls” (Reelz 8 p.m.) This new drama follows the lives of women working in a bomb factory during World War II. You know, like Swing Shift .

Wednesday 12

“Guys With Kids” (KOB-4 9 p.m.) Best network writer’s pitch meeting this season: “ Premise? Who needs a stinking premise for a sitcom these days? It’s guys. With kids. I’ll be at the bar across the street if you need me.”
