Thursday 17

“Big Bad Wood” (National Geographic 7pm) When TLC’s “Saw For Hire” bombed out after six episodes back in 2009, I was worried we’d be left without a tree-trimming reality show. Thankfully National Geographic is finally picking up the slack.

“Apocalypse Preppers” (Discovery 7pm) Love “Doomsday Preppers” over on National Geographic? Then prepare to be very familiar with the premise behind “Apocalypse Preppers” on Discovery.

“Reign” (KWBQ-19 8pm) The mid-16th century reign of Mary, Queen of Scots gets the sexy, teenage, CW-style makeover it’s been begging for.

“Mythbusters: Walking Dead Special” (Discovery 8pm) Actor Michael Rooker stops by to help test zombie myths. Myth No. 1: Are zombies real? No. … OK, we’ve got 59 minutes left to kill.

Friday 18

“What Not to Wear: The Last Hurrah in Vegas!” (TLC 7pm) TLC’s long-running fashion makeover show signs off with a 2-hour series finale from Las Vegas.

“The Birthday Boys” (IFC 8:30pm) Bob Odenkirk (“Mr. Show”) and Ben Stiller (“The Ben Stiller Show”) produce this sketch comedy show featuring an up-and-coming LA comedy troupe.

Saturday 19

Grave Halloween (Syfy 7pm) An American college student studying overseas investigates her mother’s death in Japan’s real-life “Suicide Forest.” It stars Kaitlyn Leeb, who appeared as “three-breasted hooker” in the remake of Total Recall. So there’s that.

“When the Heart Calls” (Hallmark 7pm) Jean Smart (“Designing Women”) and Lori Loughlin (“Full House”) star in this 2-hour series pilot about an aristocratic, 19th-century woman forced to adjust to life as a teacher in a Western frontier town. Based on the novels by Janette Oke.

Sunday 20

“Guy’s Grocery Games” (Food Network 6pm) Contestants race around real supermarkets looking for ingredients in this cooking competition show. Unfortunately hosted by Guy Fieri.

“Toy Hunter: Toy Haunter” (Travel 6pm) Toy hunter Jordan Hembrough tracks down scary toys because … Halloween.

“Queer Eye Reunion: 10 Years Later” (Bravo 7pm) The hosts of the popular makeover show “Queer Eye for the Straight Guy” reunite to discuss their most memorable moments.

Monday 21

Dancing on the Edge (Starz 6:40pm) Starz’ new mini-series focuses on an all-black group of American jazz musicians invited into the heart of 1930s aristocratic London society.

CrazySexyCool: The TLC Story (VH1 7pm) Not the reality show network obsessed with the Amish, little people, the overly fertile and cupcakes, but the hip-hop trio obsessed with rainbow-colored condoms and a lack of “scrubs.”

Tuesday 22

“Ravenswood” (ABC Family 7:02pm) This soapy spin-off of “Pretty Little Liars” finds five teenagers investigating their town’s “mysterious curse.” Jinkies!

“Trust Me, I’m A Game Show Host” (TBS 8:30pm) Comedians D.L. Hughley and Michael Ian Black host this “improvisational” game show in which the two funnymen try to deceive contestants with made-up facts.

Wednesday 23

“2013 World Series Game 1” (KASA-2 5:30pm) For some, the greatest American sports showdown of the year. For others, the reason Halloween always arrives the first week of October in Springfield on “The Simpsons.”
