Random tracks from North America’s Josh and Jesse Hasko
Twin brothers Josh and Jesse Hasko are the post-dance, psych rock duo North America. On Friday, April 29, the Albuquerque band hosts its spring/summer tour Push Off Party at The Kosmos (1715 Fifth Street NW). The show starts at 9 p.m., admission is $5 and The Fertile Crescent opens. Peer into the Haskos’ shared music collection via the random tracks below.
1) “Wooden Ghost” • Explode into Colors • Quilts
“These ladies are amazing and this song destroys. A friend in Portland gave us this album and we listen to it nonstop. They put this out on Kill Rock Stars and then broke up. Which is fucking awesome.”
2) “Help on the Way / Slipknot!” • Grateful Dead • “Winterland June 1977” (bootleg)
“I like to fantasize about having a huge dilapidated mansion in Big Sur and picking small onions and beans and preserving them in sea salt in a palo santo smoke-filled room. This song feels like that and sounds way better on cassette.”
3) “Can't Believe It” • T-Pain Ft. Lil Wayne • Thr33 Ringz
“This is an insane display of patriarchal energy and is darkly hetero. But when Lil Wayne comes in, the Auto-Tune is sonically amazing. This song works REALLY well for stoned roller skating at Roller King. So smooth.”
4) “Blue Bayou” • Roy Orbison • Black & White Night
“Like all Roy Orbison, this song of loneliness and longing breaks my heart. The backup singers are huge, beautiful catfish with big eyelashes, and painted cardboard dinghies just bob up and down in the water all day. A workingman's devastating tale of lost love that slays me.”
5) “Feelings” • Nina Simone • Live at Montreaux 1976
“All of Nina's songs are incredible, but this cover of Morris Albert's song is unbelievable. Best performer ever? If you want to stop blinking and hold your breath for 10 minutes, watch the live video from the Montreaux Jazz Festival in 1976.”
