Chris Walsh is the guitarist for Red Light Cameras—a Burque rock ’n’ soul four piece. On Saturday, Oct. 15, the band releases its self-titled debut album at the Launchpad (618 Central SW) with the support of Techtonic Movement, The Great Depression, RAWRR! and Shoulder Voices. The 21-and-over show is $5. In the meantime, we asked Walsh to set his digital music library to random—get a feel for the band’s inspirations below.
1) “Month of May” • Arcade Fire • The Suburbs
“I'll love Arcade Fire even after they are cool. You can tell that they really mean what they say. I saw them when they came to Santa Fe and found they are truly dedicated to their live show. I think about them every time I play live.”
2) “Anybody Seen My Baby?” • The Rolling Stones • Bridges to Babylon
“Let's face it, The Rolling Stones is the most ridiculous band ever. Mick Jagger is one of the ugliest/sexiest rockers alive. Keith Richards should be dead a hundred times over. And the band has been together for almost 50 years. Ridiculous.”
3) “A Girl Named Sandoz” • Smashing Pumpkins • Pisces Iscariot
“The Smashing Pumpkins cover The Animals’ B-side, and then put it on their album of B-sides. Sounds raw, messy and so old-school pumpkins. Billy Corgan taught me guitar.”
4) “Ledwerx” • I is for Ida • Storybook
“I got this album at their CD release show and was magically transported to a magical world of good vibes watching them perform.”
5) “All Apologies [acoustic]” • Nirvana • With the Lights Out
“Kurt Cobain was a teenage angst god, and his albums were the bible which I studied from. Looking back, I realize that underneath Kurt's brooding, anti-music industry facade was a really good pop songwriter.”
