L Words

The "L" stands for love. And lesbians. And lyrics from hip-hop duo God-des and She—who, come to think of it, once appeared on HBO’s "The L Word," cable’s most prominent source of literate, lusty lesbians.

The list of L words is long and lovely at Fire Womyn’s Red Party, which for the the past five years has raised money and awareness for AIDS patients through blowout parties just for the ladies.

Fire Womyn returns this Friday, Feb. 13, at Fourth Street Nightclub (formerly Ralli’s) around 8 p.m. Local DJs
Miss Ginger and Anita will spin before God-des and She headlines at 10 p.m. And, because it’s a Valentine’s affair, there are a few flirty activities planned: Get there by 8:30 p.m. for a kissing booth and rounds of speed dating hosted by comedian and Southwest Funny Fest organizer Dana Goldberg.

$10 limited advance tickets are available at Guerrilla Graphix (2205 Silver SE) and Java Joe’s (906 Park SW) in Albu-queer-que, or get pre-sales at the Aztec Café (317 Aztec) in Santa Fem. Tickets bump up to $15 when you pay at the door. Visit

Music To Your Ears Teen Shhhhhhhhhows

It sounds counterintuitive, but the Albuquerque public library system is looking for teen DJs and bands to make some noise at its branches. Turns out the Main, Cherry Hills, Lomas Tramway and Taylor Ranch libraries are equipped with performance spaces. Gigs don’t pay, but the stages are up for grabs, free of charge, for musicians between the ages of 12 and 18. Bookish bands should call Riann Powell at 768-5115 for more information and to apply.

Music To Your Ears Baby Love

Congratulations to Unit 7 Drain‘s Ella Vader and Harry Redus Brown on their best release yet: beautiful baby Edie Valencia. Coo over the baby picture at alibi.com/link/67. Hopefully, someone’s set up a PayPal account for diapers by now.
