If you answered “Yes” to all of these questions, this information is for you (if not, move on to Rob Brezny’s Free Will Astrology).On Sept. 18 and 19, Hollywood will attempt to harvest the ripe sonic fruit of New Mexico’s tax incentive-supported loins with the Music in Film Summit, brought to you by a partnership between the New Mexico Music Commission and the City of Albuquerque Film Office. The summit aims to familiarize and involve homegrown musicians, songwriters and composers with the music side of the film industry. Said industry representatives include folks from Recording Academy, FOX, Disney and Paramount. Day 1 includes a film screening at KiMo Theatre (423 Central NW) at 4 p.m., followed by a meet-and-greet at One Up Elevated Lounge (301 Central NW) from 5 to 7 p.m. Day 2 is a 9 a.m. to 5 p.m.-ish situation at the KiMo. It features five panel discussions on topics like film and music lingo, music supervision and song placement, and unlocking the mysteries of working in the biz.While the summit is for learning about the film industry, participants are invited to leave press kits and CDs, which will later be sent to attending panelists.The Music in Film Summit is free, but space is limited, so please register in advance by e-mailing Ann Lerner at alerner@cabq.gov. Music To Your Ears New Mexico Notes
In other good news for local music, KBAC 98.1 Radio Free Santa Fe and the New Mexico Music Commission recently began airing "New Mexico Notes," a half-hour show at 6:30 p.m. every Thursday. It’s hosted by Music Commissioner Rick Huff and the commission’s executive director, Nancy Laflin. The program highlights the music, musicians, related happenings and heritage of New Mexico. (Those subjects dovetail with "The Frogville Radio Hour," another local artist show hosted by Santa Fe’s Frogville Records creator John Treadwell on Thursdays at 7 p.m.) Catch the show the next time you’re in Santa Fe or Las Vegas. Even though it’s still slim pickins for Albuquerque’s airwaves, the show streams live on kbac.com. Visit the site to request a song or inquire about sending in your own stuff.
