You haven’t you signed up for the Music in Film Summit yet? Sheesh. Friday and Saturday, Sept. 18 and 19, Downtown will host panels and parties devoted to getting your music on the big screen, and it’s 100 percent free. But before you load up the jalopy and move to California, you need to RSVP in advance of the conference to alerner@cabq.gov. Log on to newmexicomusic.org for the schedule.

Music To Your Ears Sxsw: Get It While It's Cheaper

To the New Mexico bands who think they’ve got zero chance at making Austin’s official South by Southwest music showcase and therefore never bother to apply: You’re wrong. You should go for it. Honestly, there’s not a lot of competition from our sparsely populated state. And once-local musicians now living outside New Mexico are playing those odds to their advantage, submitting their bands under the Zia flag, even though they don’t actually care to live here anymore. Don’t let those douchebags take your slot.

The last day to submit is Nov. 6, but if you apply by Sept. 25, you’ll shave $10 off the regular $40 fee. You’ve got 30 bucks. Now go make us proud. Visit
sxsw.com/music/shows/apply for all the gooey details.
