Friday, Feb. 27; The Paramount (Santa Fe, 21 and over, 7:30 p.m.)/Saturday, Feb. 28; Sunshine Theater (all ages, 7 p.m.): Go ahead. It's OK to hate polka. Until you see Denton, Texas-based Brave Combo, that is. After that, hating polka—or at least Brave Combo—will be as impossible as remembering the day you were born.

It's been 25 years since Brave Combo broke out of their Texas dustbowl and began polka-ing their way across the country, juxtaposing Lawrence Welkian easy listening sounds with Latin jazz, high-energy rock and a decidedly punk aesthetic. Virtually unclassifiable, Brave Combo pull out more stops than most people assume even to exist, causing an inexplicable urge to dance, drink or both, in large quantities.

Scoff now if you like, but you're going to feel really stupid on Sunday, March 14, when the band are scheduled to be immortalized on FOX's “The Simpsons” and all your friends are talking about how cool Brave Combo are and how they knew them when. …
