Q: What’s better than basking in the sunshine, sipping a cool drink and snacking on a delicious picnic lunch with good company? A: Doing it all to a live soundtrack of some of the city’s coolest bands. The Alibi is throwing a Start Off Summer party at Expo New Mexico’s Spanish Village on Saturday, May 14, and you’re invited. The daylong event is family-friendly and starts at noon. Grilled burgers and brats, their scents wafting on the breeze, are just some of the savory morsels that will be featured along with veggie fare, plus tasty beverages both boozy and nonalcoholic. Local vendors will line the plaza when you need to stretch your legs. Nosotros opens the show with jazzy salsa at 1 p.m., with a new group taking the stage every hour thereafter until 9 p.m. The rockin’ blues of Ryan McGarvey gives way to the dulcet bluegrass of Three String Bale. Felix y Los Gatos will singe your eardrums with fiery Southwestern-tinged zydeco, and The Real Matt Jones will cool you down with his lighthearted pop/rock. Next, grab a beer and hear The Porter Draw rip out some raw Americana tunes. Toward the end of the evening, Mondo Vibrations’ reggae and the funky jams of Lost Lingo will ease you into the sunset. Lounge at a picnic table, lie on the grass or rock out in front of the stage all day–and all for a measly $10 in advance or $15 at the gate. Get your SOS Music Fest tickets at holdmyticket.com.
