Apart from this YouTube vid (bit.ly/weepersf) of a live performance, intelligence on Santa Fe doom outfit Weeper is scarce. Whoever they are, Weeper—whose membership certainly includes a luminescent triangle and a smoke machine—soundtracks a black light-drenched happening at Small Engine Gallery (1413 Fourth Street SW) on Friday, July 5, at 7:30 p.m. Along with enigmatic Weeper, “psychotronic” DJ action sets the tone for an evening of nostalgic yet somehow forward-thinking sentiment.

Music To Your Ears La Vida Loca

The Shadow Men
Nuevo Mexicano rockabilly arts and culture mag La Loca Magazine is making the digital-to-print leap, and editor-in-chief Ungelbah Davila and contributors host a launch party at Low Spirits (2823 Second Street NW) on Saturday, July 6. Punk-rockabilly quartet Mr. Right and the Leftovers, rockabilly-country bop act The Shadow Men and rock and roll voodoo duo The Howlin’ Wolves provide hip-swivelin’ sound. Entry to the 21-and-over celebration costs $5, and whole lotta shakin’ begins at 9 p.m.

Music To Your Ears Purr-Fect Psych-Pop

The Purrs
Seattle-based psych-rock/pop purveyor The Purrs has a decade of experience layering swirly guitar, earnest harmonies and toe-tappin’ hooks on the festival and DIY tour circuit. The paisley-eschewing quartet shows off at Burt’s Tiki Lounge (313 Gold SW) on Tuesday, July 9. Unknown quantity The Cool Arrows and local garage-psych troupe CanyonLands add to the kaleidoscopic revelry. This 21-and-over concert revs up at 8:30 p.m., and there’s no cover.
