The final iteration of Chatter Chamber’s concert collaboration with the Albuquerque Museum of Art and History (2000 Mountain NW) for its “Changing Perceptions of the Western Landscape” exhibit happens on Thursday, Aug. 8 at 6 p.m. The recital is themed on road movies and the westward journey and will feature four works with Conor Hanick on piano and David Felberg on violin: John Coolidge Adams’ “China Gates,” Timothy Andres’ “At the River,” Alvin Curran’s “Endangered Species” and John Coolidge Adams’ “Road Movies.” The final selection is for piano and violin, but the rest are strictly solo piano. The concert is free with museum admission.

Oakland, Calif.-based post-punk/Americana quartet Collisionville hits Burque this week. The band’s summer mini-tour celebrates a new album, The Revenge of Two-Gun Pete. Available on CD and vinyl, its 12 tracks find Collisionville instrumentally embracing down-home twang while vocals and timing reveal the group’s post-punk leanings. The Revenge is a concept album of sorts wherein a descendant of Herman Pride “feels the ghost of Hank Williams taking revenge.” In Your Cheatin’ Heart: A Biography of Hank Williams, Chet Flippo describes the humilation visited upon a young Hank Williams by neighbor Herman Pride and his family, who took every opportunity to mock Williams for his fondness for toy pistols (hence the Two-Gun Pete nickname) and his poor, fatherless origins. Hang out with and hear Collisionville at Blackbird Buvette (509 Central NW) on Friday, Aug. 9, at 6 p.m. This 21-and-over gig is free, and the band will have copies of The Revenge for sale.

Current Relapse artists Howl and Lord Dying, Southern Lord and Profane Existence act Wartorn and locals Hanta and Rezin Tree get serious at Launchpad (618 Central SW) on Monday, Aug. 12. Scene stalwart Howl is the natural headliner, but this media-weary editor found Lord Dying the more engaging exploration. Note to bands: When a jaded editor runs across a sentence like this—“In a time where everyone is trying to out-sludge or out-doom each other, Lord Dying gives something less than a fuck.”—on your Bandcamp profile, it totally makes you stand out. But the language geek in me has to point out that it’s a time “when” … With earplugs, $10 cover and valid ID in hand, indulge in this 21-and-over righteous heavy starting at 9:30 p.m.
Four Up Improv Rumbles Roost

The second installment of the 2013 Roost Creative Music Series showcases the free jazz-improv chops of local act The Rumble Trio in concert with Santa Fe-based nature photographer and pianist Robert Muller, who relocated to the high desert from Portland, Ore. Muller’s musical background ranges from touring with a Shriner’s Circus band to studio work to backing Iranian pop stars to gigs at Downtown NYC venues like the Knitting Factory. Originally conceived as a backing ensemble for trumpeter Dan Clucas, The Rumble Trio is Ben Wright (bass/saw/tuba), Mike Balistreri (bass/percussion/toys) and Mark Weaver (tuba/didgeridoo), and the group has collaborated with over a dozen guest artists in the past decade, including Bill Clark, Tatsuya Nakatani and Jack Wright. This mind-expanding concert happens on Sunday, Aug. 11 at Outpost Performance Space (210 Yale SE) at 7:30 p.m. sharp. All ages are welcome, and admission is only $5.
