When Blackbird Buvette closed down two years ago, it left a vacancy in Downtown that had yet to be filled. Well, someone finally leased it. Zullo’s Bistro, the brain child of a Minneapolis transplant to ABQ, will be opening its doors this spring at 509 Central NW.

El Pinto announced last week that they are spending $7 million to expand their manufacturing facility in the North Valley to more than 6,200 square feet. They say they’ll be creating 25 new jobs to meet rising demand for their product.

Food News Ghost Town

Lone Star Steakhouse and Zio’s Italian Kitchen are the latest restaurants to shut down near Cottonwood Mall. With about a billion other picks in the area, you won’t be going hungry, but it is worrisome, considering all the closures happening in the mall itself.

After a triumphant return from their bankruptcy boogaloo, Flying Star has announced a new menu with much, much lower prices.

Santa Fe’s famous Blue Corn Café & Brewery (4056 Cerrillos) is celebrating its 20th anniversary on Feb. 23 by turning an entire pig into chicharrones, tamales, carnitas and other porky goods. Tickets are $30 per person or $35 with beer pairings.

The New Mexico Organic Farming Conference—where farmers from all over the Southwest meet up to hear about organic and sustainable agriculture—will occur on Friday and Saturday, Feb. 17 and 18, at the Marriott Pyramid North (5151 San Francisco NE).
