Haunted Hob Nobbing in Nob Hill—Unless you're the kind of person who enjoys sticking razor blades in apples, you'll be happy know that the businesses in Nob Hill have some awesome treats planned for us this Halloween. This Monday evening, Nob Hill will transform itself into “Haunted Hill”—a music-and-candy-crawl for adults, stretched between every bar and restaurant in the area (between Carlisle and Girard, along Central). Starting at 9 p.m., costumed Nob crawlers will be able to drift into each place free of charge, gobbling candy, downing drink and food specials and soaking up a nice variety of live music. Peter Martin, entertainment director at Sig's on Central, helped whip up the whole mysterious and spooky idea.

Halloween Graze and Gulp—In keeping with the Haunted Hill festivities, Jennifer James' two brainchildren (that's Graze and Gulp) will also dress up in special Halloween costumes. Only instead of begging strangers for candy, these precocious twins will reward Monday-night patrons with a sugar-sweet dose of Vanilla Pop (a glittery two-man '80s cover “band”), Bacardi “witches brew” and blood-red pomegranate tequila. While you're there, be sure to order a few plates off of their new fall menu, which features quail, venison, beef filet, rabbit and lots of organic produce.

Better Karma for Your Kitchen—The kitchen is the literal and figurative heart of our homes, so it's probably a good idea to make sure yours is in good working order. This Sunday, Oct. 29, Wild Oats Natural Marketplace (11015 Menaul NE) will host a free workshop on applying the basic principles of Feng Shui to your kitchen. The class will be taught by Heather Smith, member of the Feng Shui Institute of America and the Feng Shui Institute International, from noon to 4 p.m.

Golden Crusts—Golden Crown Panaderia has been a Downtown institution for green-chile-cheese bread, bizcochitos and specialty bread sculptures for more than three decades (read more about the bakery on the following page's “Moveable Feast” feature), but did you know that the bakery now doubles as a pizzeria? The shop recently began serving buffalo wings and “bakery-style” pizzas several weeks back. I got the chance to gnaw off one corner of someone's personal pizza, and I liked what I tasted. It had hot, melted cheddar cheese and a tasty, puffed up crust—though, to be honest, I'm still not entirely sure what the classic definition of “bakery-style” pizza is. Do you?
