Get Your Squawk On—The second installation of the new Rocksquawk.com Concert Series will take place on Tuesday, Dec. 20, at Burt's Tiki Lounge at 8 p.m. Featured performers are When Darkness Falls, Kronic Obsession, The Unemploid, The Giranimals and The Gracchi. More Room for Music at Blue Dragon—Coffeehouse owner Chris Dale says they've expanded the back room at the Blue Dragon (the one closest to Girard), removing the pool table and knocking down a partition in order to make room for a new performance space. Now that live music is completely separated from the rest of the café, Chris says noise from the kitchen is no longer an issue and patrons won't have to fight their way through a crowd just to order food. “It's a much nicer environment for everyone—the customers and musicians.” The new music room will make hosting bigger shows possible; so will we start seeing a cover charge at the “always free” Blue Dragon?

An AMPed Year in Review—While Neal Copperman prepares for a much-deserved holiday breather from his AMP Concert Series (don't worry, they'll both be back in January), he took a moment to reflect on the 2005 season in a recent spate of e-mails. “We produced 17 shows in nine different venues and helped create the ¡Globalquerque! festival. On the side, we added 11 more concerts to the long-running Bosque House Concert series.” He added, “It’s been a year we are quite proud of, but we think 2006 is going to blow it out of the water.” I know from personal experience he's not just being optimistic.
The date has already been set for next year's ¡Globalquerque! world music festival, which will span two days on Sept. 23 and 24. Expect upwards of 20 bands, a global village, a film component and a full schedule of workshops. “Or at least, that’s the plan,” Neal said. But he's just being modest. It's going to be fantastic.

This is My Brain on Drugs—I totally fudged last week's “Debut” entry when I said the featured band was Giant Robot, when, in fact, their name is SuperGiant. Sorry guys … guess that makes me a giant asshole. Anyhow, despite my complete lack of attention to detail, the band went on to play a near-flawless debut show of original, heavy blues-driven riff rock at Burt's last Friday night. Don't miss SuperGiant's next show on Jan. 27 at Atomic Cantina.
