How many times have you heard the phrase, “This is the opportunity of a lifetime”? Enough to stop paying attention to the claim, I’m sure. Well, this is such an opportunity–if you happen to be an avid music fan with a dream to turn your hobby into a full-time job. The Alibi is looking to send one lucky, talented and enthusiastic future music reporter to the SXSW Music and Media Conference (www.sxsw.com) in Austin, Texas, March 15 through 19. This five-day music festival will host performances by over 1,000 international bands in every genre imaginable, as well as discussions and forums with some key players in the music industry.

The Alibi will shower you with a press pass to SXSW and round-trip airfare. (You'll have to find and pay for your own lodging in Austin, though.) In exchange for the loot, you'll be required to write an article for publication in the Alibi detailing your experience. Pitch us your witty, insightful and coherent story idea in a 500-word essay, due by Friday, Feb. 24, at 5 p.m. We’ll read all the submissions and announce the winner on the Alibi editorial blog at www.alibi.com on March 1 (to give you a chance to take a week off work and book a hotel). You must be at least 21 years of age to enter. Writing experience and a digital camera are a plus.
