Beating a Dead, Gothic Horse– DJ Vladmira, cofounder of Euphoria night, is looking for a lead on a new venue. As you may recall, Pulse ejected the gothic dance party a few months ago. They had worked together for seven years before that. Vladmira says they’d like to get things going again somewhere else now, possibly on a Wednesday, Friday or Saturday night. "It’s also important to us to find a venue that will host live bands and 18-and-over patrons," she says. Overall, this gloom generation has taken an uncharacteristically optimistic tone. "We will come back and hope to find a new home." If you’re interested in hosting the new Euphoria, e-mail vladmira@aol.com.
Punk Rock for the Young Ones- -The Cell Theater (Downtown at 700 First Street NW) will host two all-ages shows within the next few days. The Cell is a dandy, untraditional place to play and hear live music, but it doesn’t do any promotion for bands. If you’ve got something planned at the place, the onus is on you, buddy. Take it from these guys. On May 6, To Be Announced (yes, that is their name), The Gracchi, The Unemploid and An Action Word will play a Saturday evening punk-by-numbers showcase. Then on Wednesday, May 10, it’s The Mansfields, Creepshow and The Unemploid. The Mansfields have emerged from somewhere between heaven and hell (Colorado Springs, Colo.), and look and sound like a cross between Hanoi Rocks and The Cramps. Should be a good night for gothic kids and trashy, glammed-up punk. Both shows are at 7 p.m. with a $5 or $6 admission.
I Saw You/I Hit You- -I saw your all-male indie group at Spring Crawl. You were terrific, even though I only caught one song. You played at the District on the indoor stage, just after the Jenny Gamble Trio (also excellent). You weren’t listed anywhere. You’ve got a keyboard player. Please let me know who you are. I also saw a few members of The Holiday Sail crash the Crawl. You hauled your amps, PA and a small generator onto Central for a guerrilla streetside performance. Awesome. To the guy I shoved at Burt’s: I’m really, truly sorry about that. Please forgive me.And, finally, to everyone else–thanks for coming out. I’ll see you on August 26 for Fall Crawl!
