Starting this week, NYPD (Second Street and Central) will expand their hours until 3 a.m. Thursday through Saturday– Not only that, you’ll finally be able to take advantage of the huge new back room from 5:30 p.m.-midnight on the same days. The new space is outfitted with vintage 1980 tabletop arcade games, several beers on tap, flat screen TVs and a discrete outdoor patio. Just wander back through the parking lot to the north of the existing NYPD, or ask for help from a friendly NYPD employee like Stuart.

And Speaking of Late-Night Dining Downtown– Richard Agee has taken his La Crêperie Roulante mobile panini cart off of Gold, opting instead to reopen the kitchen at Atomic Cantina. You may remember Richard opened the Atomic kitchen for the first time almost exactly two years ago, but he left in order to pursue a sous-chef position at Gold Street Caffé. Now Agee’s back at the Cantina under a "new" operation called Café Gee. It’s basically like Crêperie Roulante, only thanks to the larger kitchen, you’ll be able to get more of Agee’s food from 4 p.m.-midnight, Tuesday through Saturday (and until 11 p.m. on Sunday). Stop by after work for one of five–yes, five–Cuban sandwiches and a PBR.

More Growers’ Markets and Grocery Stores Take Root along Central– The first Nob Hill area growers’ market will start up this Thursday afternoon, thanks to the organizational efforts of Eli Burg from the South Valley’s Chispas Farm and Jesse Daves from Amyo Farms (located in Bosque Farms). About eight-or-so local growers will set up shop at Morningside Park (Lead and Morningside) from 3-7 p.m. each Thursday through November. Look for Erda Farms CSA, Heidi’s Raspberry Farms and snacks from La Montañita Co-op. Plus, the park features soft, green grass and a playground, so bring your kids to this one.

Rob Dickson’s proposed Huning Highland marketplace,
The Market (401 Central NE), seems to be at a standstill, at least until the end of the summer, according to one source. Thankfully, two other enterprising groceries hope to fill Downtown’s disparaging grocery void over the next several weeks.

To the west,
Downtown Gourmet can be found at 900 Central SW, in a small storefront between Burning Paradise video and the Silver Moon Lodge on Central. Proprietor Carey Smoot plans to offer reasonably priced organic and gourmet grocery products, lots of fancy cheeses and, eventually, a small selection of grab-and-go deli items. Smoot plans to open by the end of May.

To the east, a husband and wife team will open
The Grove Café and Market at 600 Central SE (in the renovated Baptist church center). As the name suggests, they’ll have a nicely sized café area with food, espresso drinks, beer and wine. The market? Co-owner Lauren Greene says they’ll carry a few necessity items (milk, for example) but will focus on specialty items like olive oils and chocolate. Expect an opening by June 15.
