Oh, New Mexico State Fair. You were here and gone before we even realized it. We bid farewell to our allergies and fried food fever dreams, and begin to usher in the familiar fall foods. The weather is starting to cool off and pumpkins are popping up all around us, but maybe you don’t want to say goodbye to that last bit of summer just yet. Well, this week on The Dish, we’ve got you covered. We’re going to be picking some of our favorite places to get a little more summer loving into your heart. Let the warmth and sunshine wash over you a bit more before that familiar chill in the air takes hold and transitions all of us into our good flannel. This one goes out to you, the summer of White Claw, 30 to 50 feral hogs and green chile debates.

The Dish Pho Real

Cafe Trang (230 Louisiana Blvd. SE #A) is one of those places you never really see unless you know about it. Across the parking lot from Talin Market is arguably some of the best pho in this city, tucked away in a building that is easy to overlook. Now, I know you might be saying pho isn’t a summer food, but think about it. That soup has no bad time to enjoy it, and even in the midst of summer, it leaves you feeling rejuvenated and ready to take on the second half of the day. Couple that with their versatile menu that can encompass almost any food needs you have, and you’ll be set for a meal you won’t forget. But seriously, the pho is amazing. Don’t pass it up if you know what’s good for you.

The Dish Seriously, Yell More

Maybe you’ve never been to I Scream Ice Cream (2000 Carlisle Blvd. NE) and this is your first time hearing about it. I feel bad that you’ve missed out on this amazing space, but now is the time to rectify that. Featuring an amazing selection of really great ice cream and a space made for fun, you’re gonna be smiling more than screaming. The magic of I Scream Ice Cream is that it manages to hang onto that old school feeling of ice cream shops before they all became corporate-run look-alikes. With lots of games for the family to play together, you can sit down and really have a bonding experience with those you love.
