Another week, another set of specials. Not specials in the form you’re thinking of. Special events, so to speak. Specials that give pause for occasion and celebration. Specials that make us take a minute to appreciate the city we live in. Specials that make us grow and expand as people. Specials that leave us a little different than who we were before, and who we will continue being afterwards. Specials that we look back on, and can signal a turning point in our lives. So, with no more pomp and circumstance, here are some recommendations for things to do in the world of food in the next week.

Yelptropolis is back, so the event says. Happening Thursday, Aug. 22, an amalgamation of food and drink vendors will be gathering to celebrate “companies and people who contribute to the overall health of our environment, source locally, and position New Mexico as a national model for green initiatives in the 21st century.” For anyone 21 and over, with a suggested donation of $10 (which goes to Blackout Theatre Company, who will be performing that night), you can be a part of the celebration. Featuring local favorites like The Acre, Poki Poki Cevicheria, Fork & Fig, Rosemary, Spring Rollin’ and more, you’ll find no end to the amount of food and drink available for you to partake in. This will be happening at the El Rey Theater (622 Central Ave. SW), starting at 7pm, so for more information, go to yelp.com and find out more.

The 22nd Annual Chile Festival Benefiting Children is happening Saturday, Aug. 24, starting at 9am to 4pm. It’ll be held at the Shepherd of the Valley Presbyterian Church (1801 Montano Rd. NW), and admission is free. According to the event page, “there will be great entertainment, over 80 arts and crafts vendors, hot roasted chile, food sellers and silent auctions” going on throughout the day, and they’ll be benefiting Heading Home – Keeping Families Together, Wings For Life International and the Shepherd of the Valley Preschool. For more information on the event, check out the Shepherd of the Valley Presbyterian Church’s Facebook page, so you’ll be kept abreast about all the upcoming news for the day of.

Nothing will be quite as life-changing as Hot Girl Brunch, happening at Wine.Dive. (119 Gold Ave. SW) on Sunday, Aug. 25, starting at 11am. Featuring music by Alissa Divine and a list of drink specials ($5 Mimosas, $5 Chambong [whatever that is], $39 50oz Mimosa Tower and a $69 100oz Mimosa Tower), there really isn’t any other info about it. What I imagine it means is hot mess brunch, because I know what happens when I get my hands on a 100-ounce mimosa tower, and hot mess is the literal definition of it. Maybe they’ll be playing Billie Eilish, maybe you and friends can commiserate that another person you were dating randomly found a partner and never told you and maybe you can find peace and serenity in the madness of it all. For more information, call Wine.Dive. at 636-8050.
