Thanksgiving can be a wonderful time of year for many of us, but not all of us. For some with strained family relationships or Native American heritage, this holiday doesn’t symbolize the togetherness and bounty that it does to others. Whatever your relationship to this American holiday, we hope you have good people to share a meal or two with this week. And if you’ve gotten this far without making any kind of plan for the day, we recommend checking out one of these events where you can take your people to eat tasty food together, no dishwashing involved.

Weekly Specials: No Thanks, No Giving: Potluck And Teach-In No Thanks, No Giving: Potluck And Teach-In

Thanksgiving is an important time for many families to come together and express their gratitude for each other and the bounty of their year—but it is also a reminder of the genocide that English colonizers perpetrated against the Native American tribes that helped them survive those first lean years on the continent. Yeah, the history textbooks really painted the first Thanksgiving in a sunny light, but hopefully you don’t believe everything you read in elementary school. On Thursday, Nov. 22 The Red Nation and the Transgender Resource Center of New Mexico hosts a potluck and teach-in for those who would like to enjoy community and educate themselves at the same time. Starting at 5pm, head to the Sundowner Community Center (6101 Central Ave. NE) with a dish to share and your own plate and utensils (to minimize waste). Breaking bread with your people is an important part of building community and avoiding burnout—so come hungry, compañerxas.

Weekly Specials: Red Sauce Sunday Supper At The Feel Good Red Sauce Sunday Supper At The Feel Good

After Thanksgiving, building up the will to cook a meal again can be challenging. The Feel Good, one of the latest installments in the Vinaigrette family, invites you to put off cooking for a little while longer and bring the whole fam to their Red Sauce Sunday Supper on Nov. 25. The dinner starts at 5pm, and you’ll want to RSVP for this one—email erin.edubby@gmail.com to make that happen. The entrée at this dinner will be zucchini, rosemary and garlic tomato sauce with homemade pasta—sounds pretty great, no? This is the first of an ongoing Red Sauce Supper series that The Feel Good will host, focused on getting folks together at the end of the weekend to relax and fight off “the saddies” as Erin Wade calls them. Seems like a pretty good idea to us.
