In a world of nuclear meltdowns, political deception and never-ending piles of laundry, most of us could use a little fantasy. Sometimes it’s nice to imagine yourself inside a pink bubble, floating past marshmallow clouds and over a sparkling Champagne sea. Exotic birds fly past you every so often, jewels dripping from their feathers. When you arrive at land wearing a garland of peonies and looking like an Mucha painting, a unicorn-drawn chariot takes you to a sunny meadow filled with silk pillows and umbrellas. Purring tiger butlers serve you cocktails and macaroons. The Piper at the Gates of Dawn plays softly as a gentle breeze makes the meadow’s wildflowers sway. With a similar frilly and fanciful spirit, the Weekly Alibi’s Group Hug created the Spring Social—an evening of treats, mirror balls, balloons, flowers, unicorn horns and shimmery sounds. For a mere five dollars, you’re invited to partake in our fantasy. There will be frosty treats from Ecco Gelato, organic deli noshes from Make My Lunch and powdered donuts from Donut Mart. Photo Booth Rentals of New Mexico will also be there providing their services free to you. Sparkly local acts Monster Paws, Then Eats Them and The Glass Menageries are to offer up sonic fodder for the dance party. Meanwhile yours truly will play high-glucose records in between their sets.
