The Sixth Annual Taos Solar Festival

Though many, shall we say less-than-intelligent, Americans cannot or refuse to see the advantage of using the sun as a source of energy in lieu of sources that produce pollution, some New Mexicans can and do. Since the '70s, residents of Taos, N.M., (a.k.a. the “Solar Capital of the World”), have been putting the giant, burning ball in the sky to work in their homes, businesses and community.

The Taos Solar Festival has not only used music and art to further the idea of solar power but has also helped raise thousands of dollars for the New Mexico Solar Energy Association. With that money, the NMSEA funds visits to schools in New Mexico, Arizona and Colorado, educating children about the cleank energy source.

All events taking place on the Solar Stage are powered entirely by the sun. The Solar Village will feature demonstrations by local, regional and national alternative living experts, highlighting the conservation of what's left of our natural resources and emphasizing solar power as a practical alternative source of energy that's virtually inexhaustible. Plenty of New Mexican artists and craftspeople will be displaying their wares.
